There are always lots of young singer/songwriters coming through. Some are destined to go on to be huge and some will remain unknown but here are my top 5 to definitely check out.
Ryan Joseph Burns
“I'm goin' down to the river to set my spirit free”
Based in Glasgow. Ryan is an Americana influenced songwriter. Inspired by artists such as Jackson Browne and Ryan Adams. With all acoustic music I think it is best appreciated live and when you listen to Ryan you get a sense that he was meant to write songs and perform. When I listen to him sing I get lost in the music and can’t help being captured. Lyrically I feel like I’m going on a journey with Ryan when he sings. He draws on his own personal experiences and writes songs from the heart He’s not just another one of your songwriters, he make you believe every single word he sings.
“And when you find that one girl you can't believe that it's true til she looks you in the eyes and says that she loves you”
The Ukulele Girl. Since picking up a ukulele at the age of 13 Zoë has went on to write many songs in the similar fashion of Kate Nash and Lily Allen. Zoë has went on to play many gigs all across Scotland winning praise everywhere she goes. Her clever lyrics are easily relatable to anyone from her age to someone twice or even three times her age. Over two years later Zoë has over 120 gigs under her belt and there is no stopping her. From day one she has known that performing her own songs infront of a crowd is all she wants to do and with the confidence she has there is no reason why she can't.
"With nothing left to say you took my breath away"
The first thing I notice about Jonny is his unique voice, when I hear him sing I can't help be captivated by it. His songs are well crafted and raw, sometimes little pop gems. But ultimately it is his voice which makes him stand out from the crowd. Starting at the age of 14 Jonny has went on to play at some iconic venues such as King Tut's and Oran Mor.
"I could be the bad guy or I could be your hero baby all I need is a line to show you how far we could go"
One of the hardest working musicians I've come across recently. If you follow Mark on facebook you will know he is always playing gigs and open mic nights, quite relentlessly. You can tell he is dedicated and treats his chosen trade almost like a full time job. Since starting to gig at the age of 14 in a local band Mark then went on to perform solo material from the age of 18. Slowly gaining a great reputation on the live circuit as a confident preformer.
"I never claim to see the future well I've barely had a past"
Performances at T in The Park and Glastonbury under his belt. Aaron clearly knows how to please a crowd. A cross between Bob Dylan and Neil Young with hints of The Beatles. Aaron has played a venues all across Britian. His self titled debut album is filled with confident and quircky songs. He has quickly gained praise and airplay from all across the UK. His debut album was also lauded by his fans and gained huge praise by the critics.
