After another small hiatus from the blog I found myself with some time to spend so I decided I would spend some time trying to promote my blog. Social media my preferred plan of action. A few tweets later and a retweet from the wonderful Vic Galloway here I am with record views on the blog and twice the number of followers on Twitter. This gives me the incentive to actually write blogs. So here I am with the first of many.
As a result of my activity yesterday I stumbled across a couple of absolute gems. In the form of Paul McGranaghan who is a singer/songwriter from Largs. His songs poses an uplifting joyful quality which is unique to Scottish music. 'What Can I Do' is an early favourite. Another fantastic singer/songwriter I discovered was Edinburgh based Megan D. Scotland has a great reputation for producing a long line of great female singer/songwriters and Megan along with a few others is continuing that tradition. Her song writing has a very honest quality and this puts her right at the top of the pack. I wouldn't be surprised to hear big things from her this year.
Along with Megan and Paul I also discovered a couple of cracking bands. First is rock band Penfold who are from Livingston. As they put it "We make lots of loud music and the occasional quiet one". After listening to their single 'Exactly How It Happened' and b-side 'And the Beast' the band work well together and are a great ensemble. The single is available to download for free at the bands bandcamp. The second band are Edinburgh band Beeches who from what I've heard are a Scottish Little Comets. A couple of songs can be heard on YouTube. A new single is expected in the coming months and expect big things.
