Originally from the Scottish Borders now based in Edinburgh. After piano lessons at the age of seven Gordon then picked up the guitar five years later and soon after begun song writing which was influenced by her love of poetry and the beautiful surroundings of the Scottish Borders. She has been performing since the young age of 15.
Her latest EP 'Never Seen the Sun' was released at the start of the year. Before listening to the EP and after listening to 'Insane' the second song on the EP I had almost made my mind up that the EP would sound like everyone else and your typical singer songwriter EP. How wrong was I.
The EP kicks off with a bang with opener 'We Never Won' showing me that she is more than a girl with a guitar. Kicking the EP of with a bang. Second track 'Insane' is your more typical singer songwritery song (if there is such a thing). To me this is the stand out track on the EP. The track slowly builds with a nice piano leading the song to a big finish. Subtle strings also add to the atmosphere of the song. 'Little Flame' is another full band track and kicks off with a funky bassline which is sure to get any audience dancing, another different style on display too. Probably the most stripped back song and for me the best song vocally is closer 'Never Seen the Sun'. A gentle acoustic song almost lullaby like.
'Never Seen the Sun' is a nice EP and a great way for Gordon to demonstrate her diverse skills. With lots more gigging and song writing like a fine wine Gordon is only going to get better with age.
'Never Seen the Sun' is available on iTunes now.
